Assets and rights
- Asset backing
- A claimed relationship between an asset and an obligation or instrument. Its meaning depends on ownership, rights, liabilities and enforcement arrangements.
- Asset holder
- The person or entity that legally holds an asset.
- Encumbrance
- A claim, security interest or restriction that may affect an asset or its transfer.
- Fractional participation
- Participation divided into smaller units. The rights attached to a unit must be defined separately.
- Issuer
- The entity responsible for issuing an instrument or token under the relevant structure.
- Real-world asset
- An asset or right originating outside a blockchain, such as property or a contractual receivable.
- Special purpose vehicle
- An entity formed for a defined purpose. Its existence alone does not establish that participants have protected rights.
- Title
- The legally recognized basis of ownership, evidenced through the relevant records and law.
- Tokenization
- The use of digital tokens to represent specified rights or interests.
Token economics
- Allocation
- A portion of supply designated for a particular purpose or participant category.
- Burn
- An action intended to remove tokens from usable supply, with effectiveness depending on the mechanism.
- Buyback
- A purchase of tokens by the issuer, treasury or another designated party. Purchased tokens are not necessarily burned.
- Circulating supply
- The quantity treated as available in the market under a stated methodology.
- Cliff
- A period before vesting releases begin, where the applicable terms use that structure.
- Liquidity
- The practical ability to trade an amount within an acceptable time and transaction cost.
- Slippage
- The difference between an expected trade price and the executed price.
- Total supply
- The total token quantity under the relevant contract or stated methodology at a given time.
- Treasury
- Resources held for the project's activities, subject to its control and spending arrangements.
- Vesting
- A schedule or set of conditions controlling when allocated tokens become available.
Technology and governance
- BEP-20
- A token interface standard associated with BNB Smart Chain.
- Contract address
- The identifier of a deployed smart contract on a particular network.
- Governance
- The rules and processes by which decisions are proposed, approved and implemented.
- Multisignature control
- An arrangement requiring a defined combination of approvals for an action.
- On-chain
- Recorded or executed through a blockchain.
- Off-chain
- Occurring outside the blockchain, including property records and many operational processes.
- Smart contract
- Programmed logic deployed on a blockchain to perform defined functions.
- Staking
- A term used for different mechanisms involving committed tokens. A token rewards pool is not necessarily the same as network-validator staking.
Review and participation
- Audit
- A review with a defined scope, method and date. It is not a guarantee covering every part of a project.
- Eligibility
- The conditions under which a person or entity may participate in an activity.
- KYC
- Know Your Customer processes used to establish relevant customer identity information.
- AML
- Anti-Money Laundering controls relevant to preventing misuse of financial activities.
- Redemption
- A defined process for exchanging or settling an interest under its terms; different from selling to another market participant.
- Valuation
- An estimate of value under a specified method, date and set of assumptions.
